TMZ reports that the beauty queen, Rima Fakih, was arrested in Highland Park, Michigan on Saturday for suspicion of drunk driving. Fakih tried to deny the incident initially, tweeting on Saturday, “Let’s clear things up now…. I’m NOT in Michigan and I’m NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih.”
But her attorney, Doraid Elder, stated “Unfortunately she was.” The tweet has since disappeared and Elder commented that Fakih is “very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she is in right now.”
But her lawyer tells the Detroit Free Press that the arrest was based merely on “allegations.” Further investigation by the Highland Park police will happen tomorrow.
As the attorney points out, these are merely “allegations”. Just because someone is arrested for DUI, does NOT mean that they will be convicted or found guilty of DUI. Why?

An uncle of President Barack Obama was arrested last week in Framingham, Massachusetts, for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
According to a statement from Framingham police, an officer in an unmarked police cruiser stopped Onyango Obama just after 7 p.m. after a sport utility vehicle he was driving failed to make a proper stop at an intersection.
The arresting officer, Val Krishtal, said Obama had red and glassy eyes, slurred speech and appeared unsteady on his feet, the statement said. Obama told Krishtal he had consumed two beers, and then failed “several” field sobriety tests, according to the statement.
It’ll be interesting to see how the bottom line of this one plays out…

MIAMI — Former U.S. Congressman Tim Mahoney was arrested for DUI after police said they found him sleeping in his parked car on a South Florida road early Saturday.
Mahoney, a Democrat who filled former Congressman Mark Foley’s seat, was sleeping behind the wheel around 3 a.m. Saturday in Palm Beach Gardens, police said. Fifty-four year-old Mahoney was charged with DUI “based on the investigation and after talking to the driver,” Palm Beach Gardens Police Commander William Brandt said.
No other details were given. Mahoney, a multimillionaire venture capitalist, will be released on his own recognizance, though a jail spokeswoman declined to say when.
Florida law states that you don’t have to actually be driving to be arrested for or convicted of DUI (although not driving certainly makes it a lot more difficult to prove to a jury).
