Orlando 2012 Memorial Day DUI Saturation Patrol!

Posted by Matt Olszewski on May 24, 2012

Law enforcement across the country, including here in Central Florida, are stepping up drunk-driving enforcement over this holiday weekend. This Friday night, May 25, 2012, numerous police agencies in Orange County will be patrolling West Orange County with 50+ officers dedicated solely to looking for drunk drivers in Windermere, Ocoee, Oakland and the surrounding areas. The operation will run from 8:30pm till approximately 4:00am.

A saturation patrol is different than a DUI checkpoint in that there are no warning signs posted and every car is not stopped and checked out. A saturation patrol involves law enforcement officer conducting regular traffic enforcement, making regular traffic stops, with the concentration on making DUI arrests. With 50+ cops out there, there will end up being lots of traffic stops and inevitably, lots of DUI arrests.

If you plan to drink, plan not to drive. Designate a driver. Call a cab. Dealing with a DUI is not a good way to start your summer.

FAA’s Randy Babbitt Resigns After DUI Arrest.

Posted by Matt Olszewski on December 7, 2011

Another example of the guilty until proven innocent society we live in…

FAA head Randy Babbitt resigned Tuesday following a drunk driving arrest. “I am unwilling to let anything cast a shadow on the outstanding work done 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by my colleagues at the FAA,” Babbitt said in a statement. On Monday, Babbitt took a leave of absence from the agency after being arrested over the weekend for drunk driving in Fairfax, Va.

Matthew Barnaby Fired by ESPN after DUI arrest.

Posted by Matt Olszewski on December 6, 2011

So much for the concept of innocent until proven guilty! Also, ESPN kept NBA analyst Jalen Rose on staff after committing a DUI, serving 20 days in jail and hiding it from his employer ESPN?  What makes this case any different that Barnaby is fired the day after he’s arrested?

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former NHL forward Matthew Barnaby was fired by ESPN as the cable network’s hockey analyst on Monday, a day after being charged with drunken driving for being found behind the wheel of an SUV that was missing its front tire.

In an email sent to The Associated Press, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz wrote the network informed Barnaby that his contract was terminated “effective immediately.”

The decision was made a day after Erie County sheriff’s office said Barnaby was driving a Porsche Cayenne with front-end damage and a sparking rim in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence, where he lives. Barnaby was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and refusing a breath test.

It’s a shame that ESPN doesn’t realize that just because you are arrested for DUI doesn’t mean you will be convicted or found guilty of DUI!
